Prescriptions for the smart and lean pharmaceutical company
by Capgemini
In early 2003, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, together with business school INSEAD, conducted extensive discussions, workshops and market research covering the viewpoints and needs of pharmaceutical customers and their evolving relationship with the pharmaceutical industry. The resulting report provides a unique snapshot of the customer perspective on health care, shedding light on what customers want from health care and pharmaceutical companies, and how they want to receive it. It examines how these customer needs and preferences, along with the well-known, anticipated changes in the health care environment, will affect the relationship between pharmaceutical companies and their customers. It projects how these trends will change the way companies will market and sell their products in the future. Finally, it uses the research findings to determine prescriptions for success -- areas where pharmaceutical companies can focus to transform successfully for the future.
The primary research carried out for the report includes a web survey with more than 1,400 physicians in five countries, a population poll involving more than 4,000 consumers (as potential patients), qualitative interviews with 33 senior representatives of payer organizations, and in-depth, one-on-one interviews as well as workshops discussing initial research findings with 72 senior executives at 31 pharmaceutical companies in 15 countries.
