Pharmacokinetics of orally administered pyridoxamine dihydrochloride in Type 1 diabetic patients
by AAI Pharma Inc.
Kidney disease is a major concern for diabetics, developing in 30 to 40 percent of patients with Type 1 diabetes and 10 to 15 percent of patients with Type 2. Pyridorin (pyridoxamine dihydrochloride) is a potential therapeutic agent to prevent the progression of diabetic nephropathy associated with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Increased Advance Glycation End (AGE) products are reported to be a major contributor in the development of diabetic nephropathy, and research has shown Pyridorin to be a potent inhibitor of AGE formation. In this conference paper, AAI Development Services reports on studies initiated to understand and evaluate the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of oral Pyridorin in patients with Type 1 diabetes and diabetes-associated nepropathy.
