Quantitative determination of ketoprofen in human plasma by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectral detection

by AAI Pharma Inc.

Ketoprofen, 2(3-benzoylphenyl)-propionic acid, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug shown to have inhibitory effects on prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, to have antibradykinin activities, and to stabilize lysosomal membranes. To evaluate the bioavailability of ketoprofen for a new drug delivery system, AAI Development Services developed and validated a rapid and sensitive bioanalytical method to determine human plasma concentration levels of ketoprofen. The method was demonstrated to be robust and selective with accuracy and precision consistent with current recommended guidelines from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In this conference paper, AAI researchers explain how they developed this method, which makes use of liquid chromatography (LC) with tandem mass spectral (MS) detection.
