Monitoring the water content in heat transfer fluid

by Bruker Optics Inc.

This white paper by Bruker Optics Inc. describes the process of monitoring water content in heat transfer fluid. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate that Fourier transform near infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy can be used to determine the moisture content in a heat transfer fluid consisting of short chain alkyl benzenes. It explains the quantitative analysis of near-infrared spectra which results from combination and overtone bands of C-H, N-H, OH, etc., vibrations. Since most solvents contain at least one of these bonds, they are ideal for near-infrared analysis.
