Characteristics of directly compressible KLUCEL HPC controlled-release matrix systems

The paper evaluates the compaction and release characteristics of HPC as a directly compressible matrix polymer in combination with various diluents. HPC can be used as a controlled-release tablet matrix, and reduction in particle size can greatly reduce the release rate.

This paper addresses preparation of directly compressed tablets with fine particle HPC matrices. The feasibility of achieving robust HPC formulations with comparable manufacturability, compactibilty, flow properties and release kinetics to formulations prepared by wet granulation is examined in the terms of the choice of directly compressible filler, drug solubility and concentration and polymer level.
