Real-time monitoring of vapor phase hydrogen peroxide for cycle development
by Steris Corp.
This white paper by Steris Corp. explains real-time monitoring of vapor phase hydrogen peroxide (VPHP) for cycle development. VPHP sterilization is very sensitive to changes in temperature, humidity and concentration. During cycle development for barrier applications, data collection of these variables is essential in producing an efficient sterilization cycle. This paper analyzes VPHP concentrations throughout an enclosure for various cycle parameters and examines the effect of conditioning the enclosure with high injection rates prior to the sterilization phase. It also includes real-time values from a gas distribution analysis at various injection rates and shows the decreasing trend of VPHP concentration at very high injection rates due to condensation of the vapor.
Lastly, this paper examines some load configuration by determining the decay rate of VPHP for each load. Because calibration of VPHP is complex due to the vapor’s instability, the data is analyzed as relative, not absolute. However, these relative values may reduce cycle development time as well as produce a more efficient sterilization cycle.
