Noise Reduction of LC-MS Data Using the Component Detection Algorithm

by Advanced Chemistry Development Inc.

The combination of liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry is of high value. Unfortunately, it may be difficult to identify trace components in the Total Ion Chromatogram (TIC), due to a poor signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio and drifting baselines arising from the LC mobile phase, MS ionization source, or interferences from the sample matrix. This Application Note by Advanced Chemistry Development Inc. shows how low-intensity signals can be extracted from what looks like a noisy baseline using CODA. The sample used for this analysis was a mixture of surfactants, and contained several analytes at very low concentrations. ACD/MS Manager Version 8.0 was used to process the data.
