Application Study: The Analysis of Pd in Pharmaceutical Materials Using the Epsilon 5

by PANalytical Inc.

The Epsilon 5 is a high performance energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer specifically designed to achieve the lowest possible LLD's for heavy trace elements such as Cd, Pb, As, precious metals and the lanthanides. A key application capability of the Epsilon 5 is its ability to analyze residual catalysts, such as Pd, in pharmaceutical base materials at low concentrations with high levels of precision. In order to demonstrate the capabilities of the Epsilon 5 for this application, 4 samples of pharmaceutical base material containing concentrations of Pd between 9 and 51ppm were used to create a calibration curve and a single sample was analyzed against this calibration multiple times.
